School Owes Coach: $11,270,153
Contract buyout as tracked by USA Today Sports: $11,270,153. (Figures are based on an offer letter signed by the parties on Dec. 6, 2024, rather than a full-form contract. Utah State must make Mendenhall whole in the event he incurs any costs or expenses associated with such payment, including any income tax liability. If he incurs any additional costs or expenses associated with this payment, including but not limited to any additional income tax liability, Utah State agreed to provide him with a gross-up payment to make him whole, with such payment amount to be determined in good faith by school and Mendenhall's financial advisor and/or CPA, if applicable. This provision will survive the contract's termination.)
Coach / Hiring School Owes: $1,500,000
If Bronco Mendenhall accepts a position as head coach with another collegiate program or an NFL franchise prior to 2030-12-31, he or his new employer is legally bound to pay this liquidated departure penalty.
